Mo Norai has worked in Silicon Valley for a decade. He’s done stints at Google, Twitter, Facebook, and Apple, but only as a contract worker, meaning he has missed out on the tech giants’ storied perks, benefits and job security. So when he was approached last April by a recruiter from a company called Tech Jobs Box about a full-time job, he was intrigued. A woman named Kelly Dale contacted him via LinkedIn promising that “salary and benefits would be competitive.” “It really hooked me,” Norai told me last month. After a brief phone conversation, Dale said he seemed like a great candidate and set up in-person interviews with her colleague and an investor in the company. Those went well and for four months last year, Norai thought he had a new job. He was in regular communication with his new colleagues, meeting up with them for dinner, drinks, and a baseball game, but they kept pushing his start date back, saying they were securing office space and … [Read more...] about How Conservative Activists Catfished Twitter

Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization with a mission statement of “enlightening” university students on “true free market values,” was completely destabilized over the past few months as it was ravaged by Twitter users making fun of its diaper-themed protest. It’s well known TP USA and its founder Charlie Kirk have been facing an unending slew of mockery since the October 2017 event at Kent State University. But per the Independent, tweets featuring the group’s members wearing diapers in some sort of incredibly ill-advised effort to own left-wingers have had more of an impact on the group’s functioning than anyone might have guessed, threatening TP USA’s ability to coordinate protests and other actions at the more than 1,000 campuses it claims to have a presence at. According to the Independent, this month the Kent State University president and campus coordinator, Kaitlin Bennett, resigned. In a blistering statement, she … [Read more...] about Tweets About Diapers Broke the Entire Conservative Youth Movement
Hello all you Twitternet meat hordes, and welcome to Ask Dr. NerdLove, the only dating advice column whose pre-orders are only available at 1 AM. This week, it’s all about sex: who wants it, who doesn’t, where to find it and whether deciding to wait on it is a losing proposition when it comes to dating. What are the best practices when it comes to finding a no-strings attached hook-up? (We’ve covered this ground in the past, but it’s a common question.) Is deciding to wait until marriage going to make it harder to find dates? Dear Doc, I would like to get laid more often, but I don’t know how. I didn’t have sex in high school, I barely had sex in college, and while I’m more active now, it’s not nearly as frequent as I would like it to be. I have a high sex drive which makes it tough to deal. I “take care” of myself as much as I can within reason, but sometimes you just need to tango with a partner. Here’s my … [Read more...] about Ask Dr. NerdLove: How Can I Have More Casual Hookups?
Twenty-one-year-old Brooklyn-based rapper 6ix9ine (a.k.a. Teka$hi 6ix9ine a.k.a. Tekashi69) is one of 2017's breakout stars in music. With not so much as an album to his name, he has a million followers on Instagram. He’s the recipient of fawning press. He has two singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including the brash “Gummo,” which leapt from No. 54 to No. 13 this week. And, like a few young rappers on the rise, 6ix9ine has been accused of a horrific sexual crime. What’s more, he admitted to it in a court of law. According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, pleaded guilty to the use of a child in a sexual performance on October 20, 2015. The exact terms of that charge are as follows: A person is guilty of the use of a child in a sexual performance if knowing the character and content thereof he employs, authorizes or induces a child less than seventeen years of age to engage in a sexual performance … [Read more...] about Details in Child Sex Complaint Against Rapper 6ix9ine Contradict His Public Comments
I will admit that I am late to the game when it comes to Tinder. I heard about it when it first popped on the scene, and I have friends who have had some success using the dating app, but I was still hesitant to use it for myself. Some people had told me that it was more of a hookup type of app, and I didn’t want to be hooking up with random strangers from the internet. Then other friends told me of the genuine fun they had going out on dates with people they met on the app, and after years of resisting, my curiosity got the better of me. At the beginning of the year, I created an account for myself. I am not sure what I was expecting, but I was open to whatever might come from it. Almost as soon as my profile went up, I started getting liked and super liked and matched with men. The bolder ones sent me chat messages, and it was in these chat messages that I learned some things about men. 1. Big shocker: Some men are just weird. Shoutout to the dude who engaged me in a … [Read more...] about 5 Things I Learned After Signing Up for a Tinder Account
